Sri Lanka Tea Exports for the month of March 2019 totaled 26.4 million kgs showing a gain of 0.3 million kgs against the volume of 26.1 million kgs registered for March 2018, according to the market report by the Tea Exports Association. Tea in bags and packets have shown a growth year on year whilst bulk tea showed a decline compared to the corresponding month of 2018.
As a part of Ceylon tea promotional campaign of the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Toronto for 2020, the 8th Annual Toronto Tea Festival at Toronto Reference Library was organized in coordination with Tea Guild of Canada, which was held from 01-02 February 2020 at the Toronto Reference Library. The Toronto Tea Festival is Canada’s largest tea awareness program and the goal of participating at this promotional event was to contribute to and support sustainable growth within the Sri Lanka’s tea industry.
Sri Lanka’s tea output in the month of July rose 5.6 percent year-on-year (YOY) to 25.27 million kilos amid favourable weather conditions. According to Asia Siyaka Commodities, Sri Lanka’s cumulative tea production to date edged up 1.1percent YOY to 184.06 million kilos and was the highest since 2015.A 34.7 percent growth in high-grown tea production was a key contributor to the increase in the July production. This was the highest since 5.7 million kilos reported in 2014.Lowgrown tea production fell marginally to 16.35 million kilos.
